What is Birth Photography?
Birth photography is a very special type of session. I am there to document every part of that journey. From your first contractions to the moments where you very first meet your child. It's where I am there, but not. As a trained doula, I know how important it is to let a laboring mother and partner have their space. It's a special kind of dance. Some people (like me) have tribal births, surrounded by lots of family and friends and laughing and playing games between contractions. Others are very quiet and centered and want to be alone or just with their partner. It's important to understand what type of person my client and what type of birth my client wants. I am there to document, not interfere.
Why is Birth Photography so important?
I had one client sum it up for me in one sentence.
I told her how honored I was to watch her husband falling in love with their newborn.
“I wish I had been more mentally there so I could have seen it”
My reply to that?
“ hang on a sec. I can fix that for you”
*send over the first 5 images of him seeing their daughter for the first time and his first kiss on her little head*
THIS is why being at the hospital for up to 18hrs is worth it to me! THIS is why it’s worth the investment for you. One of the single most precious moments in your life, which you cannot get back, is saved for you. Captured so you can relive it again and again with clarity. An image can trigger an entire even for people, and having that moment where you first saw your childs face forever frozen will take you back. When you have gone home from the wedding, and your daughter is now a wife… you can look at that photo and have that little baby back in your arms, clear as the day she was placed there.
